WARSAW (AFP) - A knife-wielding assailant on Sunday stabbed the mayor of the Polish port town of Gdansk in front of loads of human beings at a charity occasion, police and media said.

Paramedics resuscitated Pawel Adamowicz, 53, on the scene earlier than taking him to clinic wherein he underwent surgical treatment.

The Civic Platform had supported Adamowicz s re-election in 2018 municipal elections.
